Judicial Officers undergoing Training on Refugee Rights

A cross-section of Judicial Officers are undergoing a two-day non-residential training on Refuge Rights and Protection at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.

The training which started today was organised by the Judicial training Institute (JTI) in partnership with the Refugee Law Project and was officially opened by HW Katushabe Prossy, Registrar JTI on behalf of Lady Justice Damalie N. Lwanga. 

She thanked the Refuge Law Project team for the incredible role they play in equipping Judicial Officers with knowledge which builds their capacity in settling refugee-related disputes, and also reflect on the uniqueness of the justice needs of refuges.

Representing the School of Law Dean, Ms. Patricia Atim, Lecturer at School of Law implored the Judicial Officers to join efforts in achieving a society free of gender based violence which she said was on the rise in refugee settlements.

The participants are being tipped on forced migration and legal frameworks regarding the Protection of refugees and asylum seekers, Rights and obligations of refugees and asylum seekers, understanding conflict-related sexual violence in the context of forced migration, using media as a tool for social change in the context of forced migration.
